The $50 mower is in its final death throes. I clipped a big rock and I think it rolled between the blade and the ground, bending something. It started shaking like it had just snorted a bad line. I was hoping that it was just the blade, so I bought a new one. Nope, the shakes are still there. So I brought out the measuring tape. One end of the blade sits 1/4" higher than the other. It looks like a bent shaft.
I bought this mower as a returned item that was marked down at the end of the season. It lasted nearly 9 years with minimal maintenance. I say that was a pretty good run!

Definitely sounds like a bent shaft. At least you got good service out of her! Going craigslist route for a replacement?

I already spotted THREE potential replacements! The clearance price has gone up 50%, but they are all brand-new!

I’m not sure the chassis can handle it.

Is it self-propelled?

Mine has had a bent crank for a long time, after hitting a tree stump sticking out of the ground. If you look on youtube there’s a video showing how to get the worst of it out using a sledge hammer. Mine was 70% better after doing that. Still I would of expected it to shake itself to death by now, but it just keeps on going.

I spent an hour yesterday cleaning the carb on my weedwhacker to try and get it running again. Something is still f’d up, debating spending $30 on a new carb (they dont sell rebuild kits for the little 2stroke ones), or putting that money towards a new unit...

Sorry man. My mower has a similar B&S engine and pretty much the only way to kill them is to hit something. But for $50 you did pretty good. It is hypothetically repairable, but probably not worth it. It might be worth $10-20 on CL to someone who owns a shop and has the parts to fix it and re-sell. Good luck wuth the replacement.

I've received nearly 16 years of solid service out of my Echo weed eater. I did a carb rebuild last year. Next time I'll just buy a new carb. They are about $15 on Amazon.

You could just go get a new engine at Harbor Freight. They are copies of a Honda.

I can get a whole new mower of the same quality for that price. That engine would be a big upgrade.
